Illustrated portrait of Jean-François Latty, house perfumer of Teo Cabanel and nose of Givenchy III

Perfumer

Jean-François Latty

Jean-François Latty, an old-school perfumer, made Givenchy III and Yves Saint Laurent Jazz. He came out of retirement to become house perfumer of the revived Teo Cabanel, and the perfumes he makes for it are warm and classical.

Who is Jean-François Latty

He has been making perfume since 1965. He trained at the Roure perfumery institute in Grasse and made his first perfumes for Roure in Paris. In 1970 he moved to Roure USA and then to IFF, where he spent most of his career and where Givenchy III and YSL Jazz were made. He was already retired when Caroline Ilacqua decided to revive Teo Cabanel. He agreed to work for the house and made Alahine in 2007.

Signature style

Latty works in the classic French way and values good natural ingredients. He often uses resins and spices such as myrrh and clove, so his perfumes are warm and dense. For Teo Cabanel he makes each perfume on one theme, such as a rose, a desert or a stud farm. Alahine, for one, is a warm perfume with rose.
