Perfumer
Théo Belmas is a young French perfumer at Symrise, and since 2023 he has made perfumes for Prague’s Pigmentarium. His work for the house includes Oratorio and Brutal, a tribute to Brutalist architecture.
He studied chemistry and then took a master’s in perfumery. He did an apprenticeship in Grasse and went on to work at Concept Aromatique. Today he lives partly in Dubai and partly in Paris. In January 2023 Pigmentarium introduced him as its new perfumer. His first perfume for the house was Oratorio, inspired by Prague as a foreigner sees it.
Belmas likes clear contrasts and often finds his themes in cities and architecture. In Oratorio the incense is bright and easy to wear, and it doesn’t smell of church at all. Brutal is quite different, inspired by the style of the seventies and eighties. It smells of a bitter Negroni, tobacco and amber.
