Perfumer
Ping Wei Ling was born in Singapore and now works as a perfumer at Symrise. For Sasva she made Le Notti di Goa Palolem, named after a beach in southern Goa.
She came into perfumery by chance in 1992, as a perfumer’s assistant at Dragoco, which later became part of Symrise. She formally began her apprenticeship as a perfumer in 1999. Her clients include Glasshouse Fragrances, Nonfiction and Brocard, for whom she made Blue Lotus in 2023.
She says perfumery has no rules. She likes perfumes that stir one clear feeling. Since her apprenticeship she has made perfumes rather than scents for cosmetics or household products, and that, as she puts it, is where she feels at home. Palolem is warm, spicy and floral, with amber.
