Illustrated portrait of Philippine Courtière, senior perfumer at Symrise

Perfumer

Philippine Courtière

Philippine Courtière grew up in Paris and studied law, then an internship in a perfume shop led her to perfumery. Today she is a senior perfumer at Symrise. For Sasva she made Sapna, a tropical perfume from the Le Notti di Goa collection.

Who is Philippine Courtière

Her family has close ties to fashion. Her grandfather Jacques Rouët was one of the founders of Christian Dior, and her father chaired Givenchy Couture. Her mentors were Francis Kurkdjian, Michel Almairac and Jacques Cavallier, and she worked at Robertet and Takasago. She joined Firmenich in 2009 and became a perfumer there in 2014. She spent several years working in Dubai. She has been at Symrise since 2021.

Signature style

Courtière likes contrast in her perfumes. In Dubai she got to know Middle Eastern perfumes well. Sapna is Hindi for dream, and it belongs to the collection Sasva dedicated to nights on the beaches of Goa. It’s sweet and tropical, with mango, coconut and warm amber, but not too sweet.
