Perfumer
Michelle Moellhausen is a Milan perfumer who leads fragrance development at her family’s company, Moellhausen. For Milano Fragranze she made the fresh, green Naviglio, named after the city’s canals, and Cortile together with her sister Dominique.
She was born in Milan in 1989 and grew up between Paraguay and Italy. She graduated cum laude in International Business and Management from Boston University and studied perfumery at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery. She joined the family company in 2012, worked there as a perfumer’s assistant, and now leads the development of fragrances and new ingredients. She is also a member of the French Society of Perfumers.
She finds ideas in Italian tradition and Mediterranean architecture, and also in modern art and food from around the world. Her perfumes for Milano Fragranze are named after places in Milan. Naviglio smells of bergamot and greenery and recalls the water in the canals. Cortile takes its name from Milan’s hidden courtyards and is warmer.
