Perfumer
Maurizio Cerizza grew up in Milan among the essences of his family’s company, and he has since made more than a hundred perfumes. For the Italian house Jijide he makes bright perfumes with Chinese names.
His family founded the company EMA in Milan in 1946 to work with aromatic essences. His father Aurelio later opened a plant in Imperia that distilled jasmine, rose, orris and sandalwood. As a child Maurizio loved the stills and the vault where the most precious oils were kept. He trained under René Ricord, assistant to Jean Carles. His first big success came in 1986 with a women’s perfume for Roccobarocco. Later he mentored Luca Maffei.
His Jijide perfumes are precise and bright, with plenty of citrus, greenery and flowers, and each has a clear theme. Jin U, for instance, smells of Mediterranean scrub. The warmer Huan Yi has rose, iris and sandalwood, the very things his father distilled in Imperia. The link to the plant he grew up around is easy to see.
