Perfumer
Lorenzo Orlandi Berti comes from Tuscany and is now a junior perfumer at Atelier Fragranze Milano. For Profumo di Firenze he made A Tutto Caramello!, a gourmand extrait of salted caramel, and for Necalli the dark Prometheu.
He grew up in Montepulciano, among vineyards and aromatic plants. By seventeen he could name the perfumes his friends wore, and his final school paper was on the psychology of perfume. After an intensive course at Moilette & Co he did a three-month internship at Atelier Fragranze Milano. He stayed on as a lab assistant, became production director and then junior perfumer. Nasomatto got him interested in niche perfume, and along with Orto Parisi it’s the house he’d most like to work for.
At first he worked on whatever inspired him at the moment. Now every perfume starts from what the client asks for, which he says makes the work less spontaneous but more focused. He thinks a niche perfume can have an exaggerated, crazy name. He wanted Tubercoleuse for Double Dragon to be disturbing and addictive, so he hid the tuberose behind smoky incense and leather.
