Perfumer
Julie Masse was born in Tokyo and grew up between Japan and France. Today she is a perfumer at Mane. For Milano Fragranze she made Diurno, a perfume inspired by Milan’s old public baths.
She spent her later childhood in Grasse, where her father worked in perfumery. She studied chemistry and perfumery at ISIPCA, and as a junior perfumer she was mentored by Pierre Bourdon. After a spell with the French creative team at Fragrance Resources she joined Mane in 2010. There she worked alongside Christine Nagel and Cécile Matton on perfumes for Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein and Annick Goutal.
She works precisely, with nothing unnecessary, and Diurno is a good example. It takes its name from the Bagni Diurni, Milan’s public baths from the early twentieth century. It smells clean, of lavender and sage, and on skin it recalls soap and marble.
