Illustrated portrait of Fabrice Pellegrin, Grasse-born principal perfumer at DSM-Firmenich

Perfumer

Fabrice Pellegrin

Fabrice Pellegrin, a native of Grasse, is a principal perfumer at DSM-Firmenich. He has known natural perfume ingredients since childhood. For Nissaba he made Berbera, a perfume of frankincense, myrrh and other resins, and the fruity, leathery Andevalo.

Who is Fabrice Pellegrin

He comes from a family of perfumers, jasmine pickers and suppliers of natural ingredients for perfume. He started out at Robertet and Mane, working for Thierry Mugler, Diptyque and Hermès, and moved to Firmenich in 2008. In 2017 the French magazine Cosmétique Mag named him Perfumer of the Year. For Nissaba he works with Coralie Spicher. The two made Berbera and Andevalo together, and he made Les Alpes on his own.

Signature style

For Nissaba he likes to work with natural ingredients. Berbera is a perfume of resins, named after the Somaliland port they pass through. It’s warm, but not heavy like incense in a church. Andevalo is fruitier, with strawberry, black cherry and leather.
