Illustrated portrait of Cristiano Canali, Italian perfumer at Argeville behind Archangels for Caeleste

Perfumer

Cristiano Canali

Italian-born Cristiano Canali now works as a perfumer at Argeville in the south of France. For Caeleste he made Archangels, a perfume that is soft and floral on one side and warm and resinous on the other.

Who is Cristiano Canali

He first took a degree in pharmacy, then a master’s at ISIPCA in Versailles. He started at IFF in the Netherlands, where he learned how the industry works, and then moved to Paris to join IFF’s perfumers there. He also sits on the jury of the Art and Olfaction Awards. Archangels for Caeleste came out in 2024.

Signature style

Canali likes to put together ingredients that are nothing alike. Archangels shows how that works. One side of the perfume is for the archangel Gabriel and has tuberose. The other is for Michael, the warrior with the flaming sword, and has frankincense and myrrh. Both sides are in the same bottle.
