Illustrated portrait of Bertrand Duchaufour, French perfumer and former house nose of L'Artisan Parfumeur

Perfumer

Bertrand Duchaufour

For years Bertrand Duchaufour made perfumes for L’Artisan Parfumeur, and today he works independently. He’s known for incense and for layered, modern perfumes. For the Swiss house Neydo he makes perfumes based on real people’s dreams.

Who is Bertrand Duchaufour

He started in 1985 in Grasse at Lautier Florasynth, then worked at Créations Aromatiques and Symrise. His first credited perfume was Amber & Lavender for Jo Malone in 1995. He then spent many years as house perfumer at L’Artisan Parfumeur. Today he picks his own projects. One of them is Neydo. There each perfume is based on someone’s dream and has the date of that dream in its name.

Signature style

The perfumes he made for L’Artisan Parfumeur, with incense, wood and earthy notes, still don’t smell dated. His Neydo perfumes are layered too. Mossland 12.09 smells of a damp green forest, and Wood Haze 01.11 of smoke and wood, so it’s the closest to those older perfumes.
