Illustrated portrait of Arturo Obegero, fashion designer and co-creator of Azabache for Pigmentarium

Perfumer

Arturo Obegero

Arturo Obegero is a Spanish fashion designer based in Paris. He isn’t a perfumer, but with Prague’s Pigmentarium he came up with Azabache and then its new version, Azabache Chapter 2.

Who is Arturo Obegero

His fashion is dramatic, almost theatrical. He finds his ideas in memories of growing up in northern Spain, in surrealism and in neo-noir films. He spent a year with Pigmentarium on the first Azabache. It came out in autumn 2021 in just three hundred pieces, and he painted every bottle black himself. Azabache is Spanish for jet, a black stone believed to protect. More than three years later Azabache Chapter 2 came out at Mercedes-Benz Prague Fashion Week.

Signature style

Pigmentarium made the perfume to his idea. Obegero wanted a perfume that matched his fashion, so Azabache is dark and dramatic. The first Azabache had civet, a strong animal smell, alongside the roses and incense. Chapter 2 has less of that animal side and more labdanum resin.
