Perfumer
Alissa Sullivan is a Californian perfumer and co-founder of Liis, which she started with designer Leslie Hendin. Her perfumes are light and clean, and you only notice them up close.
She trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and then spent years developing products for L’Artisan Parfumeur, Penhaligon’s and Hourglass. At Liis the perfumes are her job. With Leslie Hendin she wants to make perfumes that are well made, easy to wear and never overpowering.
Alissa works with few ingredients, so her perfumes are airy and discreet. Tea, iris and pale woody notes turn up often in Liis perfumes. Some of the perfumes come from books. Studied is based on Virginia Woolf’s essay A Room of One’s Own, and Of True Minds on Shakespeare’s sonnet about love that doesn’t change. Of True Minds is warmer than the rest, with amaretto and benzoin, but it’s still soft.
