Mango in perfume can be juicy and sweet, freshened by lime or paired with tuberose, liqueur and leather. Its scent changes alongside each of these notes, so mango perfumes can be very different from one another.
We have chosen five examples. Fruit du Paradis and Shanthi emphasise fresh fruit, Jasmine Freak white flowers, Sapna liqueur and honey, and Cuir Kora leather and spice.
Room 1015 Jasmine Freak
Jasmine Freak opens with mango, sweet orange, blackcurrant and black pepper. Jasmine, tuberose and ylang-ylang give it a rich floral scent, with musk and a cashmere accord underneath.
If you enjoy tuberose and jasmine, mango adds a juicy sweetness to them here. White flowers are an important part of Jasmine Freak, so that combination is the reason to try it.
Sasva Fruit du Paradis
Fruit du Paradis opens with lime and orange. Mango, pomegranate and jasmine continue the fruity floral scent, with sandalwood, vetiver and benzoin in the base.
The tart freshness of citrus balances the sweet mango. Fruit du Paradis may suit you if you want fruit to be a distinct part of your perfume.
Sasva Le Notti di Goa Shanthi
Le Notti di Goa Shanthi pairs mango and pineapple with marine notes. Mint, cardamom and pink pepper give it a fresh, spicy opening, while labdanum, patchouli and amber wood add warmth.
Shanthi suggests tropical fruit by the sea. Mint and marine notes distinguish it from the citrus of Fruit du Paradis. If you prefer fruit with liqueur and honey, try Sapna from the same collection.
Sasva Le Notti di Goa Sapna
Le Notti di Goa Sapna opens with mango, liqueur, rosemary, plum, mandarin and peach. Coconut and tobacco add richness, while honey, leather, amber and patchouli make for a warm finish.
The fruit in Sapna recalls a sweet liqueur. Compared with the fresher Shanthi, it places more emphasis on honey, tobacco and leather. It may appeal if you enjoy ripe fruit in warm, sweet perfumes.
L'Orchestre Cuir Kora
Cuir Kora pairs mango with cardamom and elemi, alongside leather, labdanum, rosewood and benzoin. The sweetness of the fruit softens the spicy leather scent.
Leather is an important part of Cuir Kora. If you enjoy leather perfumes, mango may be an interesting addition, especially if you want something different from a sweet tropical scent.
Choosing a mango perfume
Try Fruit du Paradis and Shanthi for fresh fruit. Jasmine Freak is worth exploring for white flowers, Sapna for liqueur and honey, and Cuir Kora for leather. Sample your choice on skin to notice how the mango changes alongside the other notes.
