Matcha perfumes: four different takes on tea

Green matcha tea powder

Matcha in perfume can recall green tea or a creamy matcha latte. Rice gives it a toasted scent, cherry blossom adds floral softness, and milk and vanilla bring sweetness.

We have chosen four perfumes that show these differences. Je Ne Sais Quoi pairs tea with rice, Mono no Aware with flowers and woods, It’s a Match-a recalls a sweet breakfast, and Accrodisiaque adds rose and leather.

Rice, flowers or creamy sweetness

Teo Cabanel Je Ne Sais Quoi

Bottle of Teo Cabanel Je Ne Sais Quoi with a matcha latte

Je Ne Sais Quoi combines puffed rice, matcha, maté and violet leaf with sandalwood and other woody notes. Perfumer Patrice Revillard took inspiration from genmaicha, a tea with roasted rice.

Rice gives the fragrance a toasted, slightly nutty scent. If you prefer a cup of tea to a sweet latte, Je Ne Sais Quoi may be especially appealing.

Baruti Mono no Aware

Bottle of Baruti Mono no Aware with cherry blossom petals

In Mono no Aware, matcha sits alongside cherry blossom, cedar and musk. The flowers soften the green tea, while cedar adds dry woody notes.

Mono no Aware is worth trying if you enjoy gentle floral scents. Unlike It’s a Match-a, it pairs tea with flowers and wood rather than sweet milk and vanilla.

Versatile Paris It’s a Match-a

Versatile Paris It's a Match-a roll-on perfume oil with a matcha latte and pancakes

It’s a Match-a recalls a matcha latte with pancakes and blueberries. Vanilla and pistachio add creamy sweetness. Versatile describes it as a brunch fragrance, which captures the combination well.

This is a distinctly gourmand perfume with sweet, milky notes. It’s a Match-a Roll-On is an alcohol-free perfume oil applied directly to skin.

Versatile Paris Accrodisiaque

Versatile Paris Accrodisiaque roll-on perfume oil with red flowers

Accrodisiaque combines matcha with rose, blueberry, dill and a leather accord. Dill and tea give the rose a greener scent, while leather adds warmth.

If rose appeals more than milky notes, try Accrodisiaque alongside the other rose perfumes in our guide.

Finding the matcha style you enjoy

Choose according to what you enjoy with your tea. Je Ne Sais Quoi emphasises rice, Mono no Aware flowers, It’s a Match-a milk and sweetness, and Accrodisiaque rose and leather.

Start by smelling the two that appeal most, then try them on skin. Notice whether you enjoy the notes alongside the matcha, especially vanilla or leather.
